My name is Kristi Smith Bailey; I am running for Rowan County Clerk on the Republican ticket. I was born right here in Rowan County, the majority of my life I’ve lived out Cranston. My parents are Donna Lewis and the late Ed Smith Jr. I have been married to Darold Bailey since 2004. We have a blended family, he came with three daughters, Leslie, Chelsea, and Alexis, and together we have a son Trey and a daughter Emma, and 10 beautiful grandchildren.
Jean W. Bailey hired me in 1999 on an internship program at Rowan Technical College, Office Administration and Accounting program. Since then, I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office in various capacities and in every department. The years I wasn’t a constant in the Clerks office, I stayed engaged by working as a poll worker for several elections, several years on grant funds under Jean Bailey, or volunteering my time anywhere needed. I have worked under 3 very different clerks, and I have learned from each of them. Most importantly, I will be a working clerk, who is present in the office every day, working for you, the people!
While being a stay at home mom of 4, I kept busy by running our small trucking company from our home. I was an assistant Girl Scouts troop leader. Always a classroom parent, I organized and helped with various fund raisers to raise money for the kids, the classrooms and the school. I have chaperoned numerous field trips, including the 5th Grade DC trip 3 times. I worked as an Independent Consultant for Home Interior, Thirty-One and Pampered Chef. I served on the Site Based Council at Tilden Hogge Elementary. I have enjoyed working in customer service and public relations since my first job at 15 years old. I will work for you!!
When an opportunity presented for me to come back to the clerk’s office, I jumped. Already being trained, I hit the ground running on day one. New software and programming occur in every aspect of our life, even our phones change daily. What doesn’t change, is my ability and determination to help the people. My experience in County government, in budgeting and being audited without issue, being responsible for collections and distribution of millons of tax payer money, make me the best candidate for Rowan County Clerk. I have the experience needed to run the Clerk’s office. I will every day, be accountable and transparent for every dollar that crosses this office.
I want you to look forward to a visit to the clerk’s office with guaranteed friendly professional Customer service. Lines will be inevitable at times, but a full, cross-trained staff, will absolutely improve the flow, even on the busiest of days.
